Update your HiChord

Rev 3.0 BETA · about five minutes

HiChord CEnteringDFU Mode
  1. Hold gray+yellow+red for five seconds, until the screen says Entering DFU Mode. It stays on that message: that means it’s ready.
  2. Plug it into this computer with a USB-C cable, then press Connect.

The update clears your HiChord: presets, saved sounds, recordings and kits. The built-in sounds all stay.

Connected. Your HiChord is ready.
Preparing… keep it plugged in.

Your browser shows a short list — pick Daisy Bootloader.

A few minutes. Don’t unplug until it says it’s done.

Installed. It’s restarting now.

Leave it plugged in and switched on. It restarts by itself and shows UPDATING with a bar for up to a minute, then the logo with 3.0 BETA (if you already had an earlier 3.0, it goes straight to the logo). If the screen stays dark, slide the power switch off and on once.

HiChords without a microphone (Batch 1–3) then run a one-minute button setup: hold each chord button when the screen asks (twice), move the joystick, then press the three menu buttons. Just follow the screen.

Other versions

Going back also clears the HiChord.

Ready to connect

You need Chrome or Edge on a Mac, PC or Chromebook, a USB-C cable that carries data, and some charge. Batch 1 has no battery gauge, so leave it on USB for a couple of hours first.

Help

Chrome can't find my HiChord

Check the basics first

  • Use Chrome or Edge on a computer. Safari and Firefox can’t talk to the HiChord over USB.
  • The list must show Daisy Bootloader. If it shows “HiChord”, it isn’t in update mode yet: hold gray + yellow + red for a full five seconds. If the screen already says Entering DFU Mode (or has gone dark), it is in update mode — check the cable and port instead.
  • Try a different cable — charge-only cables carry no data — and a port straight on the computer, not a hub or dock.

Allow USB access Linux

Linux blocks USB devices for normal users. Add a udev rule for the update-mode device (vendor 0483, product df11) with MODE="0666", reload the rules, then unplug and plug the HiChord back in.

School or work computers

Managed Chromebooks and work laptops can block USB access or driver installs. If Connect is refused, use a personal Mac, PC or Chromebook.

Reset the USB driver with Zadig Windows only

  1. Download Zadig and launch it
  2. Put HiChord in update mode (hold gray + yellow + red for five seconds) and connect it
  3. Click Options → List All Devices
  4. Select Daisy Bootloader from the dropdown
  5. Set the target driver on the right to WinUSB

It's fine if the left side reads “(NONE)” rather than “libusb0”.

  6. Click Replace Driver, then return to Chrome and connect again
The update failed part-way through

Nothing is bricked — the part that receives updates lives in separate memory and always survives. The HiChord stays waiting in update mode (the screen may still say Entering DFU Mode, or be dark): plug it back in (a port straight on the computer is best), press Connect my HiChord and install again. You don’t need to hold the buttons again.

If it keeps failing, tell us which computer, browser and cable you’re using at hello@hichord.shop.

I want to go back to Rev 2.8

Open Other versions under the Connect button, pick Rev 2.8, and install it the same way. Your HiChord goes back to the public firmware and comes back factory-fresh.

Rev 2.8 has no sound library and can’t load sounds from the cloud, so your saved sounds wait in the app until you update again. On Batch 1–3, calibrate on 2.8 by holding gray + yellow while you switch it on.

Still stuck? Email support@hichord.shop with your batch number, computer and browser.
